Your passport must be valid for the whole planned stay and on the day of entry, and be the one you declared in your authorisation (eVisitor or ETA): if you get a new passport, tell the Australian authorities before you travel. If you transit through another country, check its rule: many require 6 months of validity. According to Gouvernement du Royaume-Uni (FCDO): "To enter Australia, your passport must be valid for the length of your planned stay."
