  Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months and have at least 2 blank pages. The UK counts these 6 months from your arrival date, Canada from beyond your departure date: to be safe, have a passport valid for 6 months after you leave Vietnam. Use the same passport to enter and leave; a visa issued in an expired passport is not valid. According to Gouvernement du Canada (Affaires mondiales): "Your passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond the date you expect to leave Vietnam."

France presents it as mandatory, the UK and Canada as recommended: do it in any case, arriving without it can lengthen your wait at border control.
