Entry requirements for a typical one-week tourist stay. Plan your trip with your exact dates for a personalised result.
Do US passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?
Visa required: apply for an e-visa online before you travel. Your nationality is not on the list of exempted countries. The e-visa allows a stay of up to 90 days, single or multiple entry. It is only valid for the entry point chosen in the application, and the details you enter must match your passport exactly: a submitted application cannot be corrected and fees are not refunded. Show proof of the e-visa at border control; the deadline written in your passport is what counts.

According to Gouvernement du Canada (Affaires mondiales): "Your passport must be valid at least 6 months beyond the date you expect to leave Vietnam."

Ho Chi Minh City airport: register online before you arrive
to prepareDoneVerified on Oct 27, 2026For arrivals at Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat) since 15 April 2026, an online registration is to be completed within the 72 hours before arrival; it gives a QR code to show at immigration. France presents it as mandatory, the UK and Canada as recommended: do it in any case, arriving without it can lengthen your wait at border control.
